NARDA Names Thomas Drake New President/CEO (1/12)
As President/CEO, Thomas Drake will be responsible for implementing NARDA's strategic plan and vision, marketing NARDA membership to the industry and representing the interests of retailers within and outside the industry.
A Certified Association Executive (CAE), Drake has a wide range of marketing, communications and sales experience in corporate, trade association and government areas.
"We believe Tom's experience will serve NARDA well," declared Michael Corder, NARDA chairman. "He really wants to lead NARDA to the next level."
In his previous position as senior vice president, consumer brands at Edelman, one of the world's largest public relations agencies, Drake provided senior level counsel in marketing communications strategy and programming to a wide range of clients including major retail companies and not-for-profit organizations.
Drake also spent 11 years at the National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA), an international retail trade association. Most recently, he was vice president of sales and marketing.
At NSGA, Drake oversaw events, programs and services designed to assist retailers in managing their businesses. He also was heavily involved in industry issues, helping retailers and manufacturers work together to find common ground. Among those were channel of distribution issues, including manufacturer-operated retail stores and selling over the Internet.
The first of his duties will be representing NARDA at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Jan. 8-11 in Las Vegas, Nev., with Elly Valas, NARDA's outgoing President/CEO.
The North American Retail Dealers Association (NARDA) is a not-for-profit trade association with members throughout North, Central and South America. Its members are independent retailers primarily of kitchen and laundry appliances, consumer home electronics, furniture and computers.
NARDA's mission is to enhance the ability of independent dealers to build progressive, profitable businesses.
