Companies Partner to Produce Climate-Friendly Refrigerant

Steven Mella, CEO of ComStar International and Richard Maruya of A.S. Trust & Holding have come to an agreement to manufacture, market and distribute the hydrocarbon refrigerant known as HCR188C1. This coolant, a patented blend of ethane, propane, butane and other pure hydrocarbons, displays a zero global warming potential and zero ozone-depletion rating, and is the first hydrocarbon refrigerant approved by the EPA for sale in the United States.

The American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) proclaims HCR188C1 to be non-toxic; in addition, the coolant is now a listed refrigerant with Intertek.

HCR188C1 is designed to replace environmentally harmful chlorofluorocarbons, hydrochlorofluorocarbons and hydrofluorocarbons. Results are expected by October for a final ruling from the EPA’s Significant New Alternatives Policy initiative, a part of the Clean Air Act. The ruling will list the coolant as an approved alternative refrigerant for use in household refrigerators and stand-alone freezers.

Boost ACR Energy Efficiency with Copper MicroGroove Tubes

ON-DEMAND: Today's market is challenging manufacturers of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment to increase energy efficiency, use less materials and reduce impact on the environment. The superior heat transfer of smaller-diameter copper tubes with inner grooves is helping manufacturers meet these demands with high-performance compact coils that reduce energy requirements, transfer heat more efficiently and lower costs by using less material while using familiar manufacturing techniques.
