- EXCELLENCE IN DESIGN
With customers’ lighter pockets and smaller budgets, the buyer’s focus is on well-made designs with practical functions, now more than ever. The winners of our 23rd annual Excellence in Design competition meet those needs, as well as creating innovative, interesting products.
Take the Dyson DC31 handheld vacuum, the Humanscale Element LED light, the Electrolux French door refrigerator and more. All of this year’s winners faced fierce competition-winning on a number of factors including designing for human factors, aesthetics, innovation and technical aspects.
Entries are slotted into one of eight categories with a chance to win a Gold, Silver or Bronze award. Winners are not evenly distributed across each category as there is no predetermined number of awards established. Regardless of how many entries a category received, the idea is to recognize the most excellent product designs-period.
An independent panel of three experts in the field of design evaluated the entries based on several factors. Information on the judges can be found on page 22. Next year’s competition will be announced in November of this year. Information on the 2011 EID competition will be available at www.appliancedesign.com/EID. For more information, contact Maggie M.
