ISO/TR 7250-2:2010 is part two in a series of reports compiling body measurements. The report seeks to identify variations among human body sizes around the world so that manufacturers can optimize technological design according to today’s population diversity.
According to the report, the average American man is 1.76 meters tall and weighs 80 kilograms. Thai men average 1.67 meters in heights and weigh 64 kilograms. Dr. Makiko Kouchi, project leader of the report, said, “Harmonizing our surroundings to our body size, shape and capability by applying ergonomic principles is key to ensuring our well being…More often than not, products are designed in a mass production basis which ignores human variation. The report will help manufacturers to better gear their products to their target customers, taking into account the considerable difference in body shapes and sizes that can exist.”
