In May, the U.S. Department of Energy issued proposed new energy-efficiency standards for refrigerated beverage vending machines dispensing bottled or canned soft drinks. The proposed rules would reduce energy consumption of glass-front and polymer-front vending machines by 35 percent to 42 percent. Traditional, solid-front vending machines would cut their energy use by 15 percent.
