For nearly 35 years, the California Energy Commission (CEC) has been a pioneer in the promotion of energy efficiency, but in a dramatic departure from its prior successful efforts, the CEC is now considering adoption of a well-meaning, but misguided regulatory regime that could outlaw many of our televisions. This brand of heavy-handed government regulation will increase costs to California consumers and reduce choice without a concomitant benefit.
