Motor design is often about optimizing performance, size, and cost tradeoffs. While improving one point of reference, others may suffer unduly. For example, a conventional PMBLDC motor with a given power rating can achieve increased torque density with an increased number of poles. The motor would typically be smaller as long as the commutation frequency is limited to about 250 Hz.
