Around the globe, electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) is rapidly filling our landfills and presenting an environmental catastrophe. In 1998 alone, the European Union (EU) generated more than 915,000 tons of electronic waste (equivalent to about 400,000 automobiles), and only 10 percent of this amount was actually recycled. The world has become accustomed to new innovation, yet this creates a problem that our environment cannot handle unless manufacturers and consumers alike work together to reduce further "disposable electronics."
