American Zettler, Inc.

AZ942H Now Meets IEEE 6kv Lighting Surge Test

American Zettler, Inc. has improved the design of the AZ942H relay, a 12 Amp miniature PC board relay, so it can meet the difficult IEEE 6 kV lightning surge test. Most relays of this type can only meet 4 kV. The AZ942H relay can now withstand the positive and negative 1.2 X 50 us 6 kV unidirectional pulses and the 0.5 us — 100 kHz 6 kV Ring wave from contact to coil. Additionally, the AZ942H also has a 3 kV Rms dielectric strength rating from contact to coil. The AZ942H has a 12 Amp switching capacity, Class B insulation standard, Class F also available, and has UL and CUR approvals. It is available in SPST or SPDT with DC coils to 48 VDC. This high surge voltage withstand capability is desirable in any device that is connected to the AC mains, such as white goods controllers, machine controls and HVAC controllers.

Thermtrol Corporation

Thermtrol Corporation’s One Shot Thermal Cutoffs Featured in New Catalog

Thermtrol’s Thermal Cutoffs are single action devices that do not reset. The active component in a Thermal Cutoff is a fusible alloy surrounded by a special resin. Under normal operating temperatures, the fusible alloy joins the two lead wires within the thermostat body. But when an abnormal condition occurs, the fusible alloy melts and breaks the circuit, with the special resin ensuring permanent cutoff. Both Axial and Radial lead configurations are available in a multitude of temperatures and electrical ratings.

Thermtrol’s recently released 2003 catalog covers all of Thermtrol’s products including One-Shot Thermal Cutoffs, Self-Hold 7AM Motor Protectors, Auto Reset 7AM Thermal Protectors, Immersion Thermostats, Disc Thermostats, Regulating Thermostats, and Bulb & Capillary Thermostats. Featuring a color-coded layout to aid in thermostat option selection, the Thermtrol 2003 catalog is a must have for your library.

UFE Incorporated

Gear Design Online... and it’s Free!

UFE Incorporated, a worldwide leader in plastic gear design and manufacturing, has made it possible for engineers to jump start the gear design process by simply connecting to the UFE Web site (www.ufeinc.com). Clicking on a button gives gear designers access to specialized Web-based gear design software that was developed by Universal Technical Systems (UTS) and Ticona in conjunction with UFE Product Engineering.

UFE is providing the online Gear Design service without cost or obligation. The online UFE Gear Design Software is used to determine initial plastic gear specifications data, load analysis, safety factors and materials specifications. The program allows the gear designer to input size parameters for spur or helical gears including: numbers of teeth, pitch, face, center distance, power, torque and tangential load. Additionally, designers can vary the parameters to suit an application and verify the relative difference as indicated by a safety factor. The online program also provides composition recommendations for gear construction.

UFE Incorporated is recognized throughout the appliance industry for its expertise in the design and manufacture of gears, gear trains and motion controls.

Transilwrap Company, Inc.

New “Cling-Mate” URA Designed for P.O.P. Signage

Brand marketers for a major appliance manufacturer wanted a durable, rigid point-of-purchase signage material that was easy to remove after the sale. So, the Transilwrap Company, of Franklin Park, Illinois, designed, developed and delivered “Cling-Mate”, a new multi-polymer alloy, with a high performance URA (Ultra Remov-able Adhesive). It bonds firmly with most any indoor surface including metal, polypropylene, stainless steel, painted metal or glass; and can be removed up to 12 months later with no residue left behind.

“This revolutionary product is destined to replace vinyl and paper in P.O.P applications on appliances, automotive vehicles, and other items requiring durable, clean and appealing signage that doesn’t mar the merchandise,” says Brad Braunreuther, Transilwrap Product Manager. The rigidity and high tear resistance inherent in Cling-Mate signage makes it more durable and longer lasting than flexible vinyl decals which can be peeled off and “pocketed” by store browsers. Cling-Mate is also preferred over permanent adhesive paper labels, which are often difficult to remove after the sale or promotion has ended.

Transilwrap operates manufacturing plants in Chicago, Illinois and Richmond, Indiana, as well as 12 converting/distribution sites in the United States and Canada. For more information contact:

MSC Engineered Materials and Solutions Group

Sound Trap® Laminated Steel Offers Quiet Alternative to Cold-Rolled Steel

By use of its proprietary roll-coating and laminating process, MSC Engineered materials Solutions Group is helping major appliance and outdoor power equipment manufacturers achieve significant reductions in noise and vibration.

Sound Trap comprises two steel skins, constrained over a layer of viscoelastic material which absorbs vibrational energy and reduces noise in end products. This material is currently used on major appliances such as washers and dryers, as well as breadmakers, central/ window air conditioners and the new line of IC engines made by Briggs & Stratton. Specifically, Sound Trap material acts as a noise and vibration-reducing component, when used as the enclosure, inner shell, compressor mounting plate or other housing structure.

Sound Trap materials can be formed, even welded, with no loss of performance integrity and no delamination. In certain applications, owing to cost or manufacturing issues, Sound Trap AD® is offered as an add-on damper material by MSC.

At Briggs & Stratton, substantial noise and vibration reductions have been achieved on the new lawnmower and other outdoor equipment engines, by the use of this laminated steel composite from MSC as the engine housing and cover.
