Sears Introduces Buyer Protection for Home Appliances


Sears, Hoffman Estates, Ill., is introducing its Sears Buyer Protection Program. The program, available July 6, 2009, through August 1, 2009, will cover major appliance purchases over $399 made with a Sears card if the accountholder loses his or her job. The program also covers the cost of service agreements, installation, delivery and more if those items were purchased with the appliance. Read more...

GE and Tendril Sign Strategic Agreement 
 
Tendril, Boulder, Colo., and GE Consumer & Industrial, Louisville, Ky., have signed a joint development agreement to further enhance the communication capabilities of GE's demand response appliances. Tendril, the creator of Tendril Residential Energy Ecosysystem (TREE) and GE Consumer & Industrial will develop an integrated and interoperable system that will enhance GE's demand responsive appliances capability to communicate over metering and broadband networks. LG Electronics to Reorganize Mexico Operations

LG Electronics, Mexico City, Mexico, manufacturer of consumer electronics, mobile communications and home appliances, is planning to reorganize manufacturing plants and expand investments in Mexico. The company will invest an additional US$100 million over the next three years, increasing total production capacity to US$4 billion. Read more...

ASHRAE Makes Change to Residential IAQ Standard

In a time when the U.S. economic stimulus plan is emphasizing retrofitting commercial and residential buildings, ASHRAE, Atlanta, Ga., has approved a change to its residential ventilation standard to encourage home retrofits to improve indoor air quality. Addendum e to ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.2-2007 allows alternative methods for meeting the standard's requirements regarding kitchen and bathroom exhaust fans. Read more...


Supreme Court Upholds Legality of Cablevision's DVR

On June 29th, the United States Supreme Court denied the petition for a writ of certiorari upholding the legality of Cablevision's remote digital video recorder (DVR), reports the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), Arlington, Va. The technology is functionally identical to a home DVR, and allows viewers to record programs on a remote system within Cablevision's offices. Read more...



CSA America Unveils New Corporate Identity

CSA America Inc., Cleveland, Ohio, developer of standards, codes, and personnel certification programs, has announced its "CSA Standards" corporate identity, which includes a new corporate logo. Effective immediately, CSA America Inc., will adopt the new CSA Standards corporate identity so that all international standards development offices operated by CSA Standards are unified under a single brand that is identifiable by stakeholders, the public, and media anywhere in the world. $300 Million in Energy Star Rebates

 

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Washington, D.C., has announced the availability of nearly $300 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for state-run rebate programs for consumer purchases of new Energy Star qualified home appliances. The new program underscores the Obama Administration's commitment to make American homes more energy efficient, while helping to support the nation's economic recovery. Read more...
