Whirlpool to be Smart Grid Compatible by 2015
Whirlpool Corp., Benton Harbor, Mich., announced that by 2015 all of its electronically controlled appliances will be capable of receiving and responding to signals from smart grids. The announcement was made at the EE Global Forum & Exhibition in Paris.
Bracken Darrell, president of Whirlpool Europe, and executive vice president of Whirlpool Corporation, stressed the critical importance of a collaborative effort among industry, government institutions, NGOs, utilities, and other stakeholders to drive truly meaningful energy conservation, before announcing the company's newest commitment. Middleby Completes Acquisition of CookTek LLC
The Middleby Corp., Elgin, Ill., has announced the acquisition of CookTek LLC, Chicago, Ill., manufacturer of induction cooking and warming systems for the commercial foodservice industry with approximately $10 million in annual sales. The purchase price for the acquisition was $9 million, which was financed under Middleby's senior revolving credit facility. Further payments are due to the seller under an earnout arrangement to the extent certain financial performance targets are achieved.

Connected Consumer Electronics Sales to Exceed 100 Million
Consumer demand for digital media and online content will push worldwide annual sales of connected CE to more than 100 million units by 2013, according to the new Parks Associates, Dallas, Texas, report Home Networks for Consumer Electronics.
The market for connected CE includes networked TVs, Blu-ray players, game consoles, home media servers, and set-top boxes. Through network and Internet connections, these devices can access and display home network content such as photos and music and retrieve online content such as widgets, games, and video from Hulu and YouTube.

Hill Phoenix Acquires Tyler Refrigeration Assets
Hill Phoenix Inc., Conyers, Ga., a Dover company, has announced the acquisition of certain assets and intellectual property of Tyler Refrigeration, a unit of Carrier Corp. Financial terms of the transaction were not released.
Under the terms of the transaction, Hill Phoenix has purchased select equipment and other physical assets, order backlog, intellectual property and the service parts business of Tyler Refrigeration. In addition, Hill Phoenix also has purchased Tyler's five service and installation branch businesses. Read more...

LG Launches Third Generation Linear Compressor
Home appliance maker LG Electronics (LG), Seoul, Korea, has launched its third generation linear compressor, which the company says furthers its global leadership in environmentally friendly components and products.
A home ice bar equipped 725-liter refrigerator with LG's third generation linear compressor uses just 35.9 Kwh per month. This makes it the most energy efficient refrigerator in its class, even besting the same size model with LG's second generation linear compressor by 3.6 Kwh.
