Before, consumers choosing cordless or electric mowers would have to sacrifice power and performance. Now, there is an alternative to gas, the PowerMower from Remington, the first and only cordless lawn mower with a corded option. Read more...

Controls: Taking Charge

Capacitive touch-control technologies are considered by many to be the workhorses of the electronics industry, having been used in applications such as cash registers, kiosks, cooking appliances, medical equipment, consumer electronics, and more. Cooking: Improved Induction

cooking Fig7_new

The old saying that “a watched pot never boils” means that when impatiently waiting for something to happen, it seems to take forever – but that was before induction cooktops were invented. Now one can fill a pot of water, place it on an induction cooktop, turn on the energy and watch the water come to a boil within 30 seconds. Induction cooking uses electromagnetic energy to heat cookware made of magnetic material (steel, iron, nickel or various alloys). When the unit is turned on, the coils produce a high frequency alternating magnetic field that ultimately flows through the cookware. Molecules in the cookware move rapidly back and forth, causing the cookware to become hot and cook the food. Find out more.

Cords: Stopping Strain Picture-1-Heyco-002

Whether the appliance is a vacuum cleaner or a floor scrubber, hair dryer or curling iron, microwave or refrigerator, they all have at least one thing in common, the power cord. And, where there is a power cord, there usually is a need to protect it. Strain reliefs can do just that. Find out more.

Joining: Through Thick and Thin

1-Henrob_cutaways

Self-pierce riveting (SPR) has been around for decades, so most are probably familiar with its basic premise. SPR is a cold joining process used to fasten two or more sheets of material by driving an engineered rivet through the top sheet(s) and upsetting the rivet, under the influence of a die, into the bottom sheet without breaking through it.

What’s new is that, with a properly engineered system, SPR can produce high performance joints  in diverse and thinner materials that are often used

in today’s applications. Read more.
