Lustrous Luminance

LED technology is improving by leaps and bounds, or, more appropriately, watts and lumens. Riding a wave of better fabrication technologies, today’s LEDs are cheaper, brighter and offer more color choices. And, they still feature inherent longevity, durability and the ability to operate at a wide — and growing wider — temperature range. Want to learn more?

METALS & METAL PARTS

Lightweights Get Tough bicycle

In recent years there has been growing interest in using lighter weight materials across a broad range of applications. This is particularly true of the aerospace and automotive industries, where there is increasing environmental pressure being brought to bear on manufacturers to reduce emissions. But, in fact, many other applications, including portable devices, can benefit from a switch to lighter materials given the appropriate surface characteristics. Find out more.

MOTORS

Confidence in Clothes Lead-Image-WhirlpoolDuetHT

Programs like Energy Star and the American Water Works Association’s Water Wiser initiative have become increasingly pervasive in recent years demonstrating consumers’ increasing support for the environment. These and other conservation initiatives continue to grow in scope and in their influence over consumers’ purchasing decisions. Find out more.

PRODUCTS

AZ Displays Inc. AZ-DisplaysTFT-2

The company offers a new line of digital active matrix TFT LCD’s in a 7 in. diagonal, 16:9 wide screen format with 800 x 480 resolution. A total of 14 new models are available. The digital displays can be used for a variety of applications to display both full-motion video content and simple graphics. Such applications include medical products, industrial controls, security monitoring equipment, after-market automotive devices, and table-top instrumentation. Wide screen LCD’s are recommended even if full-motion video is not displayed. This is based on the industry’s trend that most devices with color displays may need to upgrade to display video, and eventually all video will be shown in wide screen in a near future. Allegro Microsystems Inc. Allegro-igbt

The SCM1100M series, part of the company’s Inverter Power Module products, has a 100 to 240 VAC input voltage, and a 5 to 15 A output current. The ICs can withstand voltages of up to 600 V (IGBT breakdown voltage), providing an IPM for controlling three-phase motor inverters that are used to drive motors for residential and commercial appliances. The series employs a small-footprint DIP package with exposed thermal pad for enhanced power dissipation capacity. The IC consists of six IGBTs, three pre-drive ICs, and six flyback diodes as well as a bootstrap circuit (three bootstrap diodes and three boot resistors) as a highside drive power supply. Find out more.

CIT Relay SwitchCIT-right-angle-image

The CL1200 Series of momentary lighted SPST pushbutton LED switches include a right angle version. Offering three frame options – no frame and cap, square frame or round frame and cap -- the CL1200 lighted pushbutton switch is available with numerous combinations of frame colors and cop colors in lighted or non-lighted configurations. Optional LED colors include standard or super bright red, green, yellow and blue as well as bi-colored LED versions. Want to learn more?

The reciprocating compressors are engineered to be more energy efficient, providing total cost of ownership solutions to systems requiring a wide range of refrigeration applications. Find out more.

Lati S.p.A. Lati

The company has created a new family of injection moldable ultra-stiff compounds that can replace metal alloys as well as many composites. The compounds feature high modulus carbon fiber that can be molded with conventional machines, do not require curing processes, can be recycled and are not harmful to workers’ health or the environment.
