Clean Thinking

Efficiency, efficiency, efficiency. These were the themes of the annual Kitchen and Bath Industry Show held this year in Las Vegas, May 7-10. Whether that meant efficiency in terms of smart products that make cooking and cleaning easier; efficiency in terms of products that use less water, gas or in other ways were environmentally-conscious; or efficiency in terms of the use of space; the trade show floor had something for everyone.   Find out why.

Quick Code

Splashy graphics and colorful images. Layer upon layer of screens. Text that is easier to read. More interesting fonts, tactile effects, animated icons and richer and more detailed graphics. These are just some of the graphical elements that many consumers desire on their appliances. Find out how.

HEATING ELEMENTSselection of mica heater

Uniform Warming

A novel, thick-film heating element technology has been engineered to create a heat source that offers a uniform temperature gradient across the element surface, reduced heat-up and cool down cycles while maintaining a cost benefit over conventional heating element technologies. The technology can be used to manufacture cost effective, low-profile heaters for commercial and industrial applications, and is well suited to serve as an alternative heat source for warming applications. MOTORSOptimizing performance

Optimizing Performance

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, electric motors account for over 60 percent of the electrical power consumed in the U.S., equal to over 1.7 trillion kWh per year, worth over $100 billion per year (at 6 cents per kWh). More than 80 percent of this power is consumed by motors larger than 20 HP, which are less than 1 percent of the country’s installed motor population. Each 1 percent improvement in motor efficiency results in a savings of over $1 billion in electrical energy costs, 6 to 10 million tons less per year of combusted coal, and approximately 15 to 20 million tons less per year of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere.  Want to learn more?

Borealis
Borealis
A new material, the GB266WG, is a detergent-resistant glass reinforced polypropylene (PP) that can be used for the interior of clothes washing machines and dishwashers. It is lightweight and durable, allowing it to withstand the highly aggressive environment found inside white goods. Its performance can be attributed to a stabilization system that enhances the lifetime of important structural components and prevents the additional ageing effects of light, oxygen and usage-induced wear and tear, such as loss of strength, stiffness or flexibility, discoloration, scratching or loss of gloss.  Want to learn more?

3M Industrial Adhesives & Tapes Div.3M-Tape-photo

The High Performance Double Coated Tapes with Adhesive 375 bond to many materials including high and low surface energy substrates such as painted and unpainted surfaces, stainless steel, glass, polycarbonate, polypropylene, ABS, wood, fabric and leather. The adhesive is thicker and stickier than the average thin tape, offering a durable bond with high peel and shear strength and resistance to UV light, solvents, plasticizers, and high temperatures.  In addition, the liners are color coded to differentiate and identify the products. The HGD series of switching output type magnetic sensors detect the opening and closing of doors and lids and folding mechanisms using a magnetic sensor with highly reliable magnetic elements. Magnetic field sensing is available in three variations: one-way only magnetic field sensing (single polarity/single output); two-way magnetic field sensing in either direction, output through one signal type (dual polarity/single output); and, bi-polar magnetic field sensing in either direction, each with its own output signal (dual polarity/dual output).   Want to learn more?

Ametek Technical & Industrial Products Ametek-Windjammer-Blowers

Windjammer variable-speed, brushless DC blowers offer compact, low noise, and long life solutions ideally suited for medical and industrial applications. The product line includes low-voltage and high-voltage (bypass and thru-flow) versions. Low voltage blowers provide output pressure up to 98-in. H2O and flows up to 160 CFM. Output pressure for high-voltage blowers can be realized up to 169-in. H2O and flows up to 274 CFM, depending on model. All Windjammer brushless blowers feature compact design with diameters of 5.7 in.  Find out more.

Omron Electronic Components LLC
omron-Photo-sensors

The EE-SX1 series of non-amplified, slotted phototransistors in a fixed “U-shaped” housing carry both the emitter and detector. They detect the presence of an object without direct contact and are available in three mounting styles: SMD, through-hole PCB, and panel mount with connector. The phototransistors are available in a packages as small as 3 x 3 x 3.4 mm with slots ranging from 1 to 5 mm. High resolution is realized through their narrow aperture width of 0.15 to 0.5 mm.   Want to learn more?
