KB ELECTRONICS

The KBAC-24D Adjustable Frequency Drive is a variable speed control in a NEMA-4X/IP-65 washdown and watertight enclosure. It is designed to operate 208-230 Volt 3-phase AC induction motors through 3.6 Amps RMS. The sine wave coded Pulse Width Modulated (PMW) output operates at a frequency of 16kHz which provides high motor torque, high efficiency & low noise.

Easy to install and operate. Tailoring to specific applications is accomplished via selectable jumpers and trimpot adjustments, which eliminate the computer-like programming required on other drives. For most applications no adjustments are necessary.

Main features include adjustable RMS Current Limit and Motor Overload Protection. Adjustable Slip Compensation. Power Start (TM) deliers over 200% motor torque to ensure startup of high frictional laods. EICL (TM) eliminates harmful AC line inrush current. Adjustable Linear Acceleration and Deceleration make the drive suitable for soft-start applications.

Emerson Motor Company

Emerson Specialty Motor Co.'s ELF(TM) motor is a 1.7" Brush-less Permanent Magnet (BPM) refrigeration motor which consumes less power than either a comparable PSC or Shaded Pole motor and does so at an even lower rpm, which is associated with lower sound levels.

Emerson designed the ELF(TM) motor with sophisticated electronics that innovated new printed circuit board layouts and circuit design for accomplishing AC to DC power conversions, to be used in both evaporator and condenser fan applications with only minor mounting adjustments and using existing appliance harness connections to minimize costs. Emerson included fan and airflow system analysis in the design process to develop the best overall system efficiency. Emerson also discovered significant overall improvements from ELF(TM) BPM technology for energy efficiency with a flat motor efficiency profile over a wide load range. Under most conditions the ELF(TM) motor has better torque and speed control than either a PSC or a Shaded Pole motor.

The finished ELF motors have been tested for speed, torque, power and current draw, locked rotor torque, power factor, voltage and efficiency. The ELF(TM) motor has a cost advantage of being able to be used in both applications, evaporator and condenser. Being smaller than competitors 3.3 inch shaded pole or ECM motors the ELF(TM) motor improves airflow and cooling of the motor, which increases both the motor and the system's efficiency.

Fasco Motors Group

A new, complete line of C-Frame centrifugal blowers are designed to handle air temperatures through the housing in excess of 500°F. Aluminized steel housings resist corrosion in mild acidic atmospheres. Blower outputs range from 10 CFM to 100 CFM. The continuous duty motors are self-cooling and thermally protected.

Available in either sleeve or ball bearing, blowers are suitable for moving high temperature air in such applications as mid-efficiency furnaces, solid fuel heating and commercial cookers. Fasco Motors Group, Cassville, Division. 800/ 467-2329 Ext. 700. www.fasco.com

A.O. Smith Electric

A.O. Smith Electric Products Company continues to set "a new standard in home comfort" with the introduction of its Electronic Frequency Modulation (EFM)(TM) motor technology. The EFM motor could be called an inverter with style, as it is a proven technology that uses an AC induction motor with an integrated electronics package. The electronics modulate the frequency and voltage to provide speed variation based on input from the thermostat and a built-in profile of the unit's performance characteristics. The EFM motor's electronics monitor system conditions and adjusts automatically to deliver the specified volume of air a heating or cooling system is designed to use. The motor's computer chip "senses" when conditions change--such as when registers are opened or closed--and adjusts the air volume. The EFM electronically controlled motor also operates more quietly than a conventional, induction unit. The times you most notice equipment noise are during start-up. This unit will 'ramp up' or ramp down' gradually, minimizing a lot of the noise associated with air-moving equipment.
