Enodis plc Agrees to Recommend Offer from The Manitowoc Company, Inc. Following Completion of Auction Process
The Manitowoc Co. Inc. announced that it has been notified by the UK
Takeover Panel that Enodis plc intends to recommend Manitowoc's offer
following completion of an auction process with Illinois Tool Works
Inc. Manitowoc's successful bid was 328 pence per Enodis share,
resulting in a transaction valued at approximately $2.7 billion,
including the assumption of Enodis' net debt (approximately $249
million / 125 million pounds Sterling as of March 29, 2008).

Wealthy U.S. Consumers Rate the Most Prestigious Luxury Appliance Brands
High net-worth consumers rated La Cornue the most prestigious luxury appliance
brand in the 2008 Luxury Brand Status Index (LBSI) survey from the independent
New York City-based Luxury Institute. Respondents
who would recommend La Cornue say, "It is the Rolls-Royce of appliances," "their
stoves are gorgeous," and are "outstanding and unique." Bertazzoni and Viking
were rated second and third, respectively.

AHRI Sets High Standard As DOE A/C Rulemaking Process Begins
Citing poor cost predictions made during past rulemakings for central air
conditioners and heat pumps, the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration
Institute (AHRI) called on the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to be more
"thorough and vigorous" during its next rulemaking process that began earlier
this month. DOE will use the rulemaking process to determine whether the minimum
efficiency standards, which were increased in 2006, should be revised again by
2016.

Outlook Strong for Canadian Major Appliance Industry in 2008 and Beyond
The Canadian Appliance Manufacturers Association (CAMA), an Electro-Federation
Canada (EFC) council, today announced latest market research for the Canadian
Appliance industry in its published report, Major Appliance Industry Trends
& Forecast. In 2008, CAMA calls for an increase of 3.7% for the five
core white goods products.

AHRI Intervenes in Lawsuit Against DOE
AHRI has intervened on the side of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)
in a lawsuit brought against the Department by an array of states and
environmental advocacy groups, which have petitioned the U.S. Court of
Appeals for the 2nd Circuit to void DOE’s final rule that raised the
federal minimum AFUE standards for indoor residential gas furnaces and
mobile home gas furnaces from 78 percent to 80 percent, effective Nov.
19, 2015.

Amsterdam-based
Gorenje has acquired a 100 percent ownership stake in ATAG Europe B.V.
The acquisition of the top-level Dutch provider of
household appliances is the largest acquisition in the history of the
company's
operations, with Gorenje thereby realising its strategy as a fast
growing Pan- European
player.

Electrolux Names New Head of Major Appliances Europe
Enderson Guimaraes has been appointed new head of Major Appliances
Europe and Executive Vice President of AB Electrolux. He succeeds
Magnus Yngen, who has been appointed President and CEO of Husqvarna AB.
Guimaraes will be a member of Group Management and report to President
and CEO Hans Stråberg.

Enodis Deal Delayed
The boards of Enodis and Manitowoc has delayed the posting of the
"Scheme Document relating to the Offer" that Manitowoc made to purchase
Enodis. The delay was approved by the panel overseeing the proposed
buyout. The two companies said that afurther announcement will be made in due course.

Appliance Energy Consumption Declines Dramatically
The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) has
released new data based on 2007 shipments of major appliances, highlighting
dramatic decreases in home appliance energy consumption since
2000.

Electrolux Consolidates Production of Refrigerators in Italy
Electrolux plans to consolidate production of refrigerators in Italy to
its factory in Susegana, Italy, while ceasing production in Scandicci,
Italy. Additional investments will be made in the Susegana factory to

Northland-Marvel plans to build a facility in Greenville, Mich.,

The 'Invisible' U.S. Energy Efficiency Boom
It's the U.S. energy boom that no one knows about. Energy efficiency may be the
farthest-reaching, least-polluting, and fastest-growing energy success story of
the last 50 years. But it also is the most invisible, the least understood, and
in serious danger of missing out on needed future investments. In the first
attempt to quantify the overall impact of the hidden U.S. energy efficiency
boom, a major new report from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient
Economy (ACEEE) shows that U.S. energy consumption (as measured per dollar of
economic output) will have been slashed by the end of 2008 to half of what it
was in 1970, from 18,000 Btus to about 8,900 Btus.

ITW Acquires Enodis
Illinois Tool Works Inc. has struck a deal with the board of directors
of Enodis plc to purchase the British company for $2.1 billion in cash
and the assumption of Enodis' net debt, which was $210 million as of
Sept. 30, 2007, bringing the total fair market value to $2.3 billion.

Group Formed to Develop Framework for IP-based Routing Over 'Lossy' Networks
Executives from Cisco and Arch Rock Corp. are co-chairing a new
Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Working Group chartered
with developing a framework for using IP-based routing techniques over
low-power, "lossy" networks. These networks wirelessly connect large numbers
of sensors and other small, embedded devices in applications ranging
from factory automation to the "connected home."
