The Canadian Appliance Manufacturers Association (CAMA), Mississauga, Ontario, an Electro-Federation Canada (EFC) council, has announced its latest market research for the Canadian Appliance industry in its published report, Major Appliance Industry Trends & Facts.
For 2008, CAMA reports a modest increase of 1.4% for the five core white goods products. Shipments to the retail channel reached 4.443 million for the five core products; however, the builder channel performed slightly less than expected at 624,000 for 2008. Refrigerators and front load washers led the way in growth for 2008, with growth of 6.2 percent and 12.9 percent respectively.
This year’s booklet focuses on current industry trends and energy efficiency improvements that have taken place over the last number of years. “Appliance manufacturers have demonstrated over the past decade a readiness to meet the conservation challenge well beyond adherence to regulated minimum energy efficiency performance standards,” says Larry Moore, of CAMA. The report provides information on energy consumption by major appliance as well as data highlighting growing consumer acceptance of “Energy Star” rated products.
