appliance maker Electrolux announced a substantial drop of almost 40 percent in

 | CEA: Consumer Confidence in Economy High, Tech Spending Low
Consumer
confidence in the overall economy is the highest it's been since February of
2008, according to new research released by Consumer Electronics Association
(CEA). However, consumer confidence in technology spending fell this month,
although CEA says this is consistent with post-holiday results in previous
years.

Carrier and Midea Form Joint Venture in India
U.S.-based Carrier Corporation and GD Midea Holding of China
have announced plans to form an air-conditioning manufacturing and distribution
joint venture in India. Under the agreement, Midea will own 60 percent of the
joint venture, with Carrier, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (UTC), owning
the remaining 40 percent.

The Super-efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD) Initiative
announced its first SEAD Global Efficiency Medal competition, a global
competition created to encourage the production and sale of more
energy-efficient electronics and appliances. The first competition, which will
start next month, will focus on flat-panel televisions.

10rate.com, an online product review website, recently
posted its top 10 high-efficiency (HE) washing machines for 2012. Whirlpool
took the top spot for quality with its WTW7990XG (Vantage) model, thanks to a
7-inch LCD touch screen and a sleek, tinted glass lid. The washing machine
received a 9.5 out of 10 rating, even with a premium priced tag of $2,099.
