On campus housing will take on a whole new look this year with a little help from Philips Electronics. The consumer electronics company has canvassed its entire line of consumer products (from televisions to razors to light bulbs), to transform your dorm room drab into a hip, hot pad, with the latest back-to-school gadgets and technologies that are sure to make any college student the coolest co-ed on campus this semester.

"Leaving the comforts of home for the smaller, shared spaces of college dorm living, doesn't mean having to leave these essentials behind," said Terry Fassburg, vice president of brand communications for Philips Electronics North America Corporation. "With Philips complete line of consumer electronics products, lighting, kitchen appliances and personal care products, the average dorm room can easily be turned into an after class hideaway and hangout envied by all."

Get Your Dorm Room 'a Rockin' with Philips Consumer Electronics FW-R55 & FW-R33 Mini Systems

While living in a dorm room is comparable to living in a shoebox, you don't have to give up the necessities of college life, and as every student knows, a cool sound system is top priority. For those who want to party just as hard as they are hitting the books, Philips offers two new 3-CD mini systems with integrated audio CD-recorders, the FW-R55 and FW-R33. Both players are MP3-CD, CD, CDR and CDRW capable for further recording and playback flexibility. Featuring a state-of-the-art, stylish silver casing, the Philips FW-R55, produces 120 Watts of power and features Philips wOOx(TM) technology speaker system. Now you can listen to hours of endless music with the 3-CD changer, and burn favorites onto CDs with the built in audio CD- recorder. (The FW-R55 is available now for a suggested retail price of $499.) Additionally, Philips offers the FW-R33, featuring a 3-CD changer, audio CD- recorder and 100 Watts of power. (The FW-R33 is currently available at a suggested retail price of $399.)

Big things really do come in small packages and Philips 13" Design Line Televisions pack a punch with their advanced features and fun, unique colors -- the perfect fit for any size room. "Must See TV" and movie night never looked so good with televisions offered in three hip and cool cabinet colors, including brushed silver, blue and kitchen white to match a variety of dorm room decors.

All three models come equipped with the QuadraSurf remote control, which has four macro buttons that can each be assigned 10 specific TV stations (for example, green button only has sports channels; blue button has stations assigned to children's programming, etc.) (This 13" television line-up is currently available at retail outlets for $129.)

Internet Radio

Going off to college doesn't mean having to leave your favorite radio stations behind. Through the versatility of the Internet, students may be able to enjoy their favorite radio morning show or DJ from anywhere in the world, catch up on the latest news in France or prepare for your French class. With Philips Internet Radio (FW-i1000) shelf system, the possibilities may be endless.

Used with a broadband connection (commonly found in today's dormitories), the innovative new FW-i1000 brings uninterrupted streaming digital audio from the Internet, allowing students access to more than 1,000 of the world's highest quality Internet radio stations. Accessing the reach of worldwide music and entertainment is as easy as pressing a button. Just as you would press your choice of CD, radio or cassette source options on a CD mini system, one also can simply press "Internet" to instantaneously connect to radio stations from around the world. The Philips system also will allow students to sort radio stations by genre, region or language for greater flexibility and customization.

Philips FW-i1000 Internet radio shelf system features a 3-CD changer and 220 Watts of power. The FW-i1000's connection to a home network brings even more playback options allowing consumers to use the system as a playback device of MP3 files stored on the home computer. Through the broadband connection, Philips system is upgradeable for new Internet audio functions. (It will be available in August at a suggested retail price of $499.)

Mirrored Alarm Clock

Late nights no longer have to equal bad hair days when you wake up to Philips' new mirrored alarm clock radio (AJ3230), featuring a flat, mirrored glass front face and neon illuminated clock numbers. This fashionable clock's dual alarm and 24-hour alarm reset features ensure your won't be late to class. The AJ3230 also offers a sleeptimer, easy alarm and time set up, battery back-up, a large amber LED display and gives you the choice of waking up to your favorite radio station or alarm buzzer. (The AJ3230, MSRP $24.99, is available now at retail stores.)

Flat Panel Speakers with Sound Card

Escape from your term paper blues by bringing games, music and movies to life on your personal PC with Philips MMS305 flat panel speakers (MSRP $149.99) and Philips Acoustic Edge 5.1 channel sound card. At just 5/8" in thickness, the system's flat panel speaker conserve desktop space and can be subtly placed almost anywhere in a room.

Anchored by a 40 Watt subwoofer, the MMS305 system employs Philips' patented wOOx(TM) Bass Driver technology to generate superior bass from a deceptively small enclosure. The wOOx bass drivers are composed of a unique dual suspension design mounted in front of the subwoofer resulting in a deeper, richer bass performance you would expect from a large subwoofer. As a result, you can enjoy more dynamic bass and sound effects. Together, the flat panel satellite speakers and subwoofer offer students a discrete yet powerful speaker system capable of filling your dorm room with rich sound.

DVD-Video Player with MP3 Playback

Forget lugging mom and dad's ancient VCR to college with milk crates full of dust ridden VHS tapes. Now you can be the envy of all your dorm mates with a DVD player that provides superior picture and sound quality combined with the versatility of CD, CDR, CDRW and MP3-CD playback, all for under $200. Philips' DVD702 features high-speed scan and slow motion, marker positions to recall favorite scenes and allows users to zoom while playing with a perfect still screen. (The DVD702 is currently available at retail outlets for a suggested retail price of $179.99.)

Personal Video Recorder (PVR with TiVo Service)

Now you don't have to choose between watching your favorite TV shows or studying for that exam. After a simple set-up that only requires a phone line and a standard outlet, you can pause, rewind and fast forward live television. Philips personal video recorder (PVR) with TiVo Service gives students the ability to customize and control their television viewing experience, so they can watch what they want, when they want.

Philips PVR with TiVo digitally records television shows, without videotape, giving students full control of live television programs, including the ability to pause, instant replay, rewind, fast forward and playback in slow motion or frame-by-frame, backward and forward. Through the use of simple "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" buttons on the PVR's remote control, students can easily find and record the programs they want. These preferences are processed daily by the TiVo service to match them with the shows available in the next two weeks. The TiVo service also will make recommendations on other shows that might be of interest. All programming is recorded digitally, so that content retrieval and playback is fast, easy and convenient.

(Philips PVR is available in several configurations of storage capacity: a 20-hour model, with a suggested retail price of $299; the 30-hour model, with a suggested retail price of $399; and a receiver that records up to 60 hours of programming for a suggested retail price of $699.) In addition, Philips offers a 35-hour unit that combines DIRECTV(R), with the satellite broadcasting TiVo Service.

TiVo offers its customers a choice in service payment options: $9.95 per month or a lifetime subscription. Philips PVR can be purchased at major retailers nationwide or via the Web at http://www.philipsusa.com or http://www.tivo.com . Bring Home Cooking on Campus with Philips Domestic Appliances
