Electrolux is considering discontinuing compressor production in the United States. This would impact two factories –
Americold in Cullman, Alabama and Athens Products in Athens, Tennessee. The factories are part of product line
components in business area Professional Indoor.
The Cullman factory produces hermetic compressors for use in household refrigerators and food freezers. It is presently
unprofitable and a major investment is needed to produce the next generation of products.
The Athens Products factory manufactures small motors used in compressors made by Americold and in residential air
conditioners made by others. A closure of the compressor factory would necessitate a reduction of staff at Athens Products.
