CEA: Consumer Confidence in Economy High, Tech Spending Low

Consumer confidence in the overall economy is the highest it's been since February of 2008, according to new research released by Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). However, consumer confidence in technology spending fell this month, although CEA says this is consistent with post-holiday results in previous years.

Carrier and Midea Form Joint Venture in India

U.S.-based Carrier Corporation and GD Midea Holding of China have announced plans to form an air-conditioning manufacturing and distribution joint venture in India. Under the agreement, Midea will own 60 percent of the joint venture, with Carrier, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (UTC), owning the remaining 40 percent.

Whirlpool Vantage Rated Top Quality HE Washer

10rate.com, an online product review website, recently posted its top 10 high-efficiency (HE) washing machines for 2012. Whirlpool took the top spot for quality with its WTW7990XG (Vantage) model, thanks to a 7-inch LCD touch screen and a sleek, tinted glass lid. The washing machine received a 9.5 out of 10 rating, even with a premium priced tag of $2,099.

U.S. Demand for HVAC Equipment to Increase

The U.S. HVAC market can expect an uptick in demand over the next 4 years. According to the latest report from The Freedonia Group, demand for HVAC equipment is projected to rise 5.4 percent annually to $17.2 billion in 2015, with shipments expected to advance somewhat faster than demand at 5.7 percent per year to $15.8 billion.

DOE Asks Where It Can Deregulate

Lennox Wins Top Manufacturing Award
